Rachel, Eliza, and I drove to the Wire Bridge in New Portland. The bridge crosses the Carrabassett River, and features a suspended wooden deck with wooden trusses, and timber framed, shingled towers. It was constructed in 1866. It was interesting watching the bridge move and flex as cars drove across it. Near the bridge, there is a place to park, and access to the river, which is very rocky. Eliza enjoyed throwing rocks into the water near the bridge.
