On a sunny summer day near the end of July, Rachel, Eliza, and I went for a drive to Owls Head. After taking a few photos of Canadian Pacific locomotive #3057 in Rockland, we went to the Ash Point Preserve. The preserve features a narrow wooded trail that leads to a rugged, rocky point overlooking the water. There were nice views of the rocky shoreline and some nearby islands. It was also on the approach path for the airport in Owls Head, so we saw several planes coming in for a landing, which was pretty neat. After our walk, we went to Birch Point Beach State Park. The park has a moderately sized beach situated on an inlet. We noticed that the sand was very fine, and quite gray in color, compared to other Maine beaches that we have been to. We found a nice picnic table in a wooded area near the beach, had a picnic, and had a fun afternoon at the beach.
