Spending a Day in the Rangeley Lakes Region

In mid-August, Rachel, Eliza, and I drove to Rangeley for the day. On the way, we stopped at the Height of Land on Route 17. After taking in the view of the nearby lakes and mountains, we continued on to Rangeley Lake State Park. The park features a grassy beach on the lakefront with stone steps leading into the water. There was a strong breeze off the lake that kept the air temperature cool, but the water felt pretty warm. We brought lunch with us and ate it at a picnic table overlooking the lake. After lunch, we checked out the campground in the park, and the boat launch area. Next, we drove to the top of Quill Hill. We had been to Quill Hill once before during foliage season. After a 4 mile drive on a dirt road, there are panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and lakes.
